A nylon pleated cartridge combines a hydrophilic membrane with support and drainage layers. Some grades use conventional nylon, while others use charge modification that adds fluid-dependent adsorption to pore-based separation. For analytical samples, fine-chemical formulations and biological constituents, removing unwanted matter and preserving the target must be assessed together rather than inferred from pore rating.
| Selection factor | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Standard or charged | Modification changes interactions with particles and molecules depending on pH and ionic conditions. |
| Overall compatibility | Assess membrane, core and seals individually, including concentration and temperature changes. |
| Target recovery | Important additives may adsorb, requiring composition comparisons before and after filtration. |

Compare early and later fractions because adsorption can change recovery during a batch.
Evaluate particle control and formulation preservation in the real fluid, not clarity alone.
Electrical capture and sieving differ; equivalence requires application-specific evidence.
Acidity, solutes and temperature still affect the membrane and other wetted components.
