Membrane Discs
For use with reusable holders. Select membrane material, diameter and pore rating around the analytical method.

A syringe filter seals a membrane disc inside a compact housing. Pressure from the syringe drives liquid through the membrane while suspended particles remain upstream. This format supports small-volume preparation before chromatography. Membrane chemistry, housing materials and retained liquid can all influence recovery, so pore size alone does not describe suitability for an analytical method.
| Selection factor | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Membrane chemistry | Assess aqueous, organic and mixed solvents separately; compare adsorption with recovery controls. |
| Filtration area | Small discs reduce hold-up, while larger areas accommodate greater particulate loading. |
| Packaging | Analytical and aseptic workflows require different packaging; sterile packaging is not process validation. |

Apply steady pressure; rising resistance calls for replacement rather than forceful pushing.
Validate any initial discard volume and include retained liquid in the sample mass balance.
It can increase resistance and blockage. Match the rating to instrument protection and demonstrated sample recovery.
Investigate adsorption, dilution and hold-up by comparing membranes and filtered versus unfiltered controls.
