A centrifuge tube holds a sample under rotational loading and uses its base geometry to help collect a pellet. The tube, cap and rotor adapter work together mechanically. Nominal capacity does not mean the tube can be filled completely at any speed. Selection should consider relative centrifugal force, temperature and sample density, because rotational speed alone is not transferable between rotors.
| Selection factor | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Rotor fit | The body and base need appropriate support; incorrect adapters can concentrate stress. |
| Centrifugation conditions | Compare permitted relative force and temperature; RPM is meaningful only with rotor radius. |
| Material and closure | Volatile samples, cold processing and chemical exposure place different demands on the tube. |

Inspect the tube and closure before applying the equipment acceleration programme.
Avoid disturbing the pellet and distinguish approximate graduations from calibrated volume measurement.
No. Rotor radius changes force, while time and sample properties also matter.
Damage and ageing may be inconspicuous; reuse must fit the product specification and method.
