Hydrophobic PTFE Membranes
Evaluate gas and venting requirements in the hydrophobic state. Liquid use requires a separate wetting assessment.
MEMBRANES / PTFE Membranes
Confirm treatment stability, fluid compatibility and application limits for hydrophilically treated membranes.

Hydrophilic PTFE uses surface modification to help aqueous liquid enter pores that would otherwise be hydrophobic. The PTFE substrate remains part of the structure, while the modified surface introduces another element in fluid compatibility. Substrate resistance, treatment stability and backing resistance must be considered separately. Prolonged exposure, drying cycles and cleaning can influence subsequent wetting behaviour.
| Selection factor | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Surface modification | Hydrophilic behaviour and its persistence vary by product and should be assessed in the actual fluid. |
| Support | Unsupported and laminated films differ in strength, sealing and chemical compatibility. |
| Cleanliness | Sensitive formulations require evaluation of initial rinse background and target recovery. |

Track pressure and flow, distinguishing fouling from changes in wetting.
Reassess liquid access after drying; cleaning limits cannot be inferred solely from PTFE resin.
Their gas and liquid behaviour differs even when device connections match.
These are separate properties; demonstrate recovery with the intended target molecules.
