Construction & operating principle

An inline laboratory liquid filter connects to tubing or a small transfer line driven by a suitable syringe, pump or pressure source. Its integrated membrane and connectors add filtration between preparation, transfer and filling. Trapped gas, pump pulsation and downstream backpressure influence performance, so assessment should include the complete liquid-handling path rather than the filter alone.

Typical uses

  • Transfer of aqueous preparations between vessels
  • Inline filtration during formulation trials
  • Particle control before laboratory filling

Use & maintenance

  1. 01

    Startup

Confirm flow direction and manage trapped gas; dry regions reduce usable membrane area.

  2. 02

    Transfer

Observe pressure as well as pump settings; bent tubing can create downstream resistance.

  3. 03

    Completion

Handle retained liquid appropriately; unvalidated gas purging can cause foam or composition changes.

Product questions

Why is the pump running without flow?

Check the feed, clamps, gas locks and blockage before increasing speed.

Can a liquid filter handle gas?

Wetting, pressure drop and retention requirements differ. Use a configuration assessed for the intended gas duty.
